Q:I already have a domain name and a Web site, but they are hosted elsewhere. Can I transfer them?
A: Yes, contact us and your current host to update your domain name and transfer your data.

Q: What payment methodes do you accept?
A: We accept cheques, certified cheques, postal money orders and Paypal (credit cards). If you are using Desjardins' Accès D, we can provide you with the necessary information for direct bank transfers.

Q: Can you design my Web site?
A: : No. However, we recommend you contact Espace Blanc design & communication if you want to have your Web site designed by specialists.

Q: What are the specs of Parcometre's servers?
A: For now, Parcomètre has one server, a Dell model R200.

Q: Do you offer shells?
A:No, for security reasons.

Q: I lost my password and my user name.
Contact an administrator and we will give you back your password and/or your user name.

Q: Can I modify my subscription at any time?
A:Yes, and we will modify the billing accordingly.

Q: What are your DNS servers' addresses?
A: : Primary: ns1.parcometre.ca (64.15.78.67). Secondary: ns2.parcometre.ca (64.15.78.68).

Q: My web scripts do not work. Are your softwares up to date?
A:We constantly update all the main softwares to avoid piracy. If you need specific support or updates regarding your scripts, contact us.

Q: What software should I use?
A:For Microsoft Windows users, the WS-FTP LE software is excellent. It's free and user-friendly, and you can download it at ftp://ftp.ftpplanet.com/WS_FTP/WS_FTP_LE/WSFTP_HomeT40_Install.exe.

Q: How do I use the FTP software?
A:Once the program is installed, indicate all necessary information in the appropriate fields and establish a connection. The information you must provide (user ID, password, domain name) is contained in an email sent by Parcomètre when you created your account. Click OK. Once you have established a connection to the server, select the files you want to transfer and click the arrow for sending/receiving files. You must send your files in the "/" directory (root dir) for your documents to be available online.

Q: Where should I place my html documents?
A: First, you need to test your Web site on your own material. When you have a final version, use WS-FTP (or another FTP software) to place your files in your "/" directory (root dir). Please note that your index file's extension must be .php, .html or .htm.

Q: What are the other directories' purposes?
A:Cgi-bin is used to place scripts. Logs contains the files related to the site's traffic. Icons contains images required to display your site's statistics (www.votredomaine.com/cgi-bin/awstats.pl). It is important that you keep these directories intact.

Q: I get an error message ("Permission denied"). What should I do?
A: Make sure your files are in the right directories. You also might be over the data storage limit. If you are not over the data storage limit and you're unable to proceed with the transfer, let us know.

Q: I can't see the documents I just placed on the server.
A: Proceed by elimination.
-Is it a server failure? Probably not, since you are consulting this document.
-Do you have the right address? There might be a typographical error. Make sure the address is http://www.votredomaine.com (replace "votredomaine.com" with your real domain name).
-Are your files in the "/" directory (root dir)?
-Do you have a file named index.html, index.htm or index.php?
If you only see Parcometre's demo page, make sure you delete or overwrite the existing index.html file. If you still haven't settled the problem, let us know.

Q: How do I view my web stats?
A:Just go to address: www.yourdomain.com/cgi-bin/awstats.pl. You must click on "update" to display the most recent data.

Q: Why do I have to use such a complicated system?
A:: Obviously, it takes a bit of adaptation and some reading to use the system appropriately, but it doesn't mean it is excessively complicated. The advantage is that you're completely independent; it allows you to modify your email addresses in a few minutes, and of course, the administrators will always be available to answer your questions.

Q: How do I manage mail accounts
A: You can manage your mail accounts at this address: www.parcometre.ca/cgi-bin/qmailadmin. We recommend you add this address to your bookmarks. The administrator must provide the following information:
Master account: postmaster. He has the highest level of authority for managing mail accounts.
Domain name: The domain name you own on our servers.
Password: Your password. You can change it afterwards.
Once you have accessed the system, you can create/delete an alias or mail accounts, forwards and mailing lists.

LEXICON:
-POP account: An email address.
-Mailing list: The mailing list has a name, like an email. It allows you to send an email to many recipients without specifying every address. Ideal to regroup all your clients or employees and send group memos.
-Redirection: Used to redirect emails from one of your POP accounts (or a virtual account) to another address.

To create a new email address, just click on "Nouveau compte Pop" in the main menu. This type of account can be configured on any computer and can be used by anyone, provided he or she knows the address and the password. For more information about Qmailadmin, you can view a detailed help document.

Q: What should I know before trying to set up my email software?
A:Parcomètre's email reception server acts like the other ISP's servers (like Vidéotron, Sympatico, etc.). You will need to set up the software (Outlook, Eudora, etc.) you are using to receive emails. You have to add a new identity that allows the sending of emails to your domain name. The advantage is that it allows you to separate professional and personal emails while using a single inbox. Before setting up your email software, you need to add a POP account in Qmailadmin (see above). To configure any email software, you need 4 informations: the sending server (smtp), the receiving server (pop), an account name (username) and a password. In this case, you can choose the name of the POP account and the password. You set them up in Qmailadmin (see above). The receiving server (pop) is your domain name preceded by "pop". If your domain name is parcometre.com, your pop server would be pop.parcometre.com. The sending server for your emails must be the one assigned by your ISP. For Vidéotron, the server is relais.videotron.ca, and for Sympatico, it's smtp1.sympatico.ca. You can follow the instructions provided by your ISP to configure your emails.

VERY IMPORTANT NOTICE:
-The POP account name is IDENTICAL to your email address. The caracters "@" and "." must be included.
-For those who are using Netscape Messenger or Eudora, replace the "@" in the name of the POP account by the "%" symbol. The email address does not change.

3. Pay special attention to upper and lower case when typing a password.
If it still doesn't work, contact an administrator.

A: The email sending server MUST be the one assigned by your ISP. See your email software's original configuration to find the name of the appropriate server, or contact your ISP.
